This transaction values Mercedes at £4.6 billion – an unprecedented figure for an F1 team – following McLaren were valued at £3.5 billion in an adjustment to corporate structure last September. The Austrian executive, who owns one-third of the Mercedes F1 operation, plans to divest a stake in the region of 5%. Wolff, aged 53 will remain as team boss and chief executive officer if the sale goes through. Shareholder Structure The other shareholders in Mercedes F1 are Mercedes-Benz and chemicals giant Ineos, who each also own a third of the enterprise. An official representative stated: "We will be making no official statement on the matter. The management structure of Mercedes F1 stays unaltered, and all three partners are fully committed to the ongoing success of the brand in Formula One." Financial Increase This arrangement signifies a substantial rise in worth of the Mercedes team since Ineos Group bought its stake for £208m in 2022. The rise reflects the growth in valuations of F1 teams in the past few years as a consequence of the increasing appeal of the sport globally. This was also seen in the success of the Formula 1 film featuring Hollywood star Brad Pitt, which was released in summer 2023 and earned over $630 million (£458m) at cinemas worldwide. The film represents Pitt's most successful movie and the highest-earning sports movie ever released. Present Performance The Mercedes team are second in the team standings, behind McLaren Racing, with three Grands Prix remaining in the current championship. Their lead driver British driver George Russell has secured victory in 2 of the 21 races this year and is in fourth place in the drivers' championship behind McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen. The team secured a record eight consecutive constructors' championships and seven driver championships, six for Lewis Hamilton and one by Nico Rosberg, between 2014 and 2021.
